Hurst Constructions QLD is proud to celebrate dual Master Builders awards for our work with Wulguru Group — recognition that underscores both the scale of our projects and the strength of our partnerships.

In 2024 and 2025, we successfully delivered two cornerstone facilities at Wulguru’s Stuart site: the Stage 1 Steel Workshops, a world-class heavy fabrication facility, and the Stage 1A Head Office, a contemporary corporate workplace. Together, these projects demonstrate our ability to deliver complex, large-scale industrial builds and refined commercial spaces with equal precision — all while maintaining uncompromising standards of quality, innovation, and efficiency.

Wulguru Steel Workshops – Building Regional Manufacturing Capability

Completed in July 2024, the $22.9M Wulguru Steel Workshops Stage 1 facility sets a new benchmark for industrial manufacturing in North Queensland.
Spanning 9,360m², the development incorporates:

• An 8,500m² heavy fabrication workshop housing ten overhead cranes with a 40-tonne lifting capacity
• A 2,000m² paint and blast facility designed to meet environmental compliance standards
• Integrated rail infrastructure to streamline the movement of oversized steel sections

The project overcame significant geotechnical challenges, with 28,000m³ of uncontrolled fill excavated, treated, and reused to create a stable foundation. Delivered ahead of schedule, defect-free, and within budget, the facility has already created over 100 full-time jobs, supported apprenticeships, and reduced reliance on overseas supply chains.

For its scale, complexity, and impact on regional industry, the project was awarded the Master Builders Commercial/Industrial Project over $15M.

Wulguru Steel Head Office – A High-Performance Workplace

Six months later, Hurst completed the $2.9M Stage 1A Head Office, providing Wulguru with a modern and efficient corporate environment.

Delivered within an ambitious six-month programme, the office reflects the speed and precision of prefabricated construction techniques without compromising on detail. Key features include:

• A spacious boardroom with custom glazed doors
• Polished concrete-look vinyl flooring
• New staff kitchen and upgraded amenities
• External shading elements and a generous car park

The result is a headquarters that balances function, comfort, and design. A workplace that supports Wulguru’s people as strongly as its workshops support production. The project received the Master Builders Commercial/Industrial Project up to $5M award, recognising excellence in delivery under tight programme constraints.
